It’s the day you have been dreaming of your entire life. You have booked the perfect venue, said yes to the dress, set the menu with your caterer, found the most sought after photographer and videographer to capture every special moment, and nailed down all of the nitty gritty details to make your wedding day just right. Not only that, but your bridesmaids, groomsmen, family members and friends have all set their schedules and paid all expenses so they can be there to love and support you every step of the way.

Everything seems to be going as planned and suddenly… a world wide pandemic hits and all of the questions begin to flood your mind.

“Will I still get to experience the wedding day I have looked forward to my whole life?”

“Will the vendors give me my money back or allow me to reschedule?”

“Will my guests understand? What if they already booked their flights and hotels?”

We want to assure you these questions are completely normal and we understand why you would fall into a complete panic. Because of this, we want to share a few practical tips to the best of our ability in hopes to comfort you and set your mind at ease as you start to consider different options for your special day.

1. Take a deep breath

While we know things are not going as planned and it seems as though everything is falling apart, it is so important to take some deep breaths, talk to your fiance, a close friend or family members for support and encouragement, and take a nice warm bubble bath or something else to calm your nerves in the midst of stressful times. While it is easier said than done, remember all things will work out in the end and you will still spend the rest of your life with your best friend.

2. Contact your venue and vendors to discuss different options

This tip is of utmost importance as you will want to know the details of each of your vendor’s refund policies. Be prepared to know that while some will be able to refund at least the partial amount, some may not be able to accommodate depending on the type of business they own. It is best to contact them as soon as you decide to postpone so there is a better chance of figuring out an alternative. Keep in mind that no matter the financial outcome, each vendor will do everything they can to help you during this difficult time.

3. Connect with everyone on your guest list

It seems like a daunting task, especially if you have a large guest list, but connecting with each individual or family on your guest list is extremely important in order to make sure they know about your decision directly rather than hearing it through the grapevine and causing more issues. One idea to make it less daunting is to split the guest list in two and having your fiance do half while you complete the other half. If it is still too much for you, ask 2 or 3 trustworthy wedding party members if they can help assist you in conquering the list. By taking the time to contact them one-on-one, your guests are much more likely to be understanding and sympathize with you through the difficult decision you have made, no matter how it affects their bank account or plans.

4. Create a check list in order to plan your new and improved wedding day best fit for YOU

Depending on your situation, you may be ready to jump right in and plan a smaller wedding with a few close friends and family members by your side. Some may want to plan a small ceremony for now while dreaming up a large reception down the road once the pandemic passes. Or, maybe you just want to take a break from all the planning and postpone it altogether until you feel refreshed enough to begin again. There is no right or wrong decision, only what works best for you and your future spouse. Whatever you decide, create a simple check list so you feel more organized and better prepared for all of the changes taking place. We found an awesome printable guide from Zola to get you started here: Change-the-Date Checklist

5. Remember to have FUN through the process

Again, it is so easy to become discouraged and feel like your dream wedding day will no longer come true. By applying the simple tips above, we hope you are able to have a clearer mind as you look toward the future and discover ways to find joy in the midst of the chaos. Continue to go on weekly dates with your fiance to help keep your head on straight and remember it all comes down to love and making a lifetime of memories together. Spend time with your family and friends so you don’t forget that you have a village of people around you who want the best for you and will do anything they possibly can to make this wedding season special, regardless of the circumstances out of your control. Never be afraid to ask for help if you become overwhelmed. Most of all, give yourself grace in the moments you grow tired and frustrated. You’re human and it’s okay to become upset at times when your plans change, as long as you don’t allow yourself stay that way so you can find the light at the end of the tunnel. You’ve got this!

Don’t forget, you will be a BEAUTIFUL bride no matter what!
